Content Publisher for WordPress: How to Get Started

Before you begin

Content Publisher is a content integration service that allows you to publish content created in Google Docs to your WordPress website (we plan to support other authoring tools than Google Docs in the future). The service acts as a middle layer between Google Docs and your website, where content can be enriched, organized and structured. Think of it as a headless-CMS with Google Docs as an editorial interface.

Our goal on this page is to help you get to the point where you can effectively publish content on a website. For that, you’ll need:

  • You and/or your content creators to install our Google Docs add-on
  • A content collection initialized in Content Publisher
  • A WordPress website configured for Content Publisher where the content in your collection will be published

Let’s get this running!

Prerequisites

  • A hosted WordPress website where you have options to install plugins of your choice.
  • Ideally, run it on Pantheon.io (there’s a free sandbox if you want)

Installation steps

1. Create a new WordPress site on Pantheon (see instructions) or get ready to use an existing one

2. Download the latest release of the Content Publisher WordPress plugin

3. In the WordPress admin dashboard, install the plugin and then enable it

4. Go to the plugin setting page, here the interface will ask you for an authentication token to initiate a content collection for your WordPress website. Open a new tab to go create a management token on Content Publisher:

5. Prepare for publishing your first document by going to Google Docs and installing Coontent Publisher add-on

🎉 You made it!
